CAAD // Digital Hut

Digital Hut is a brochure with the final report of a research project on building with digital tools and methods. You can download the brochure as a pdf file here.

Against the background of rapid developments and the spread of digital or so-called exponential technologies, we will be increasingly challenged in the future to rethink social, economic and political structures and formulate new strategies. In increasingly shorter intervals, ever greater scope for innovative concepts is opening up. The almost all-encompassing networking, i.e. the interaction of humans and objects with and among each other and the intelligent control of processes or automation, offers a multitude of opportunities and at the same time presents society with immense challenges.

The aim of the research project was the design and prototypical production of a „minimal house“ using comprehensive digital technologies, both in development and production as well as in later use. In the multi-phase project, digital production methods were used to develop a variable and reduced lightweight construction system that can be configured and built by the user himself via APP – without the use of complex tools. By using innovative material processing and the use of sustainable building materials in combination with an adaptive spatial concept, a particular attempt was made to meet the requirements of a mobile and networked society. The main focus is on the connection of (software) interfaces, user collaboration (principles of „open innovation“ and „mass customisation“), local or decentralised, digitalised prefabrication of the building and the individually adapted design and realisation of high-quality, atmospheric rooms.
